BleepingComputer.com: Vista - Audio Driver

Hello,
I'm building a new pc and running into an issue w/ the audio driver.

It's a Dell Optiplex 745. The audio driver is an:

Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated HD Audio

It was taken directly from Dell's site and is the only audio driver avail.

Since downloading it, I get the following error message at each reboot:

"MAX4PNP has stopped working"

I can't seem to find any info online (yet), and the ADI tech support folk
suggested contacting Intel (makers of the motherboard).

I read the "Vista Drivers" thread, and see there is an Nvdia audio driver
available. Curious if that might be a better route to go than trying to use
the Dell one?

FWIW, the audio appears to be working, but something w/in the app.is
crashing at startup.

Generally the smax4pnp.exe application isn't essential for your audio drivers to work. I'd suggest disabling it from launching in order to stop the errors from recurring. Since the sound works, the drivers are working - you just may be missing some functionality that the SoundMax software provides - but "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I doubt that the nVidia drivers will work with your Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated HD Audio
