What Cpu Will Work

ok. I need a cpu.

in the event i cant find a exact replacement what cpu would be compatible with a dell inspiron 1100
the previous one is a
ntel Celeron 2.4 GHz
Package 478-pin FC-PGA2
Socket/Slot type Socket 478
Processor speed (MHz) 2400
Bus speed (MHz) 400
Clock multiplier 24

any suggestion.. under 150 dollars
aslo..would this be considered a mobile or desktop cpu and whats the difference

also. from what i've read goings from the intet celeron to a p4 may be better, if so what would the improvements be

I'm sorry, I don't have much experience with notebooks, but I SERIOUSLY DOUBT that a notebook would have a socket 478, which is a desktop socket. Unless these specs are directly from your computer, I would have to strongly disagree with you on that. And newegg should help you find an exact match.

Yea, DELL WAS NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. Their replacement parts do not include a proc, and their replacement mobo doesnt list a socket. All they say is pretty much "this is a mobo for the Inspiron 1100. do not inhale directly"

Sorry about all the confusion. If we have your service ID tag we can look up the exact specs of your laptop and determine what processor you need. Is there a specific reason why you are changing your Processor? Mabe its not the problem and we can help find the exact problem with your system.

Thats the most definite statement that I have heard so far, I will go with this but remain doubtful. DON'T BUY ANYTHING UNTIL UR SURE, BUT THIS SHOULD WORK FOR 478. I did a NewEgg search, no 478's came up for mobile processors, but this is probably the best 478 there ever will be. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819116027

yea i checked newegg along time ago an they didnt have a mobile i needed

I don't think a service tag does anything but pull up the same PC you can search for and pull up your warranty

the computer is 4 years old its way past warranty.

if im possible restricted to 400 fsb

what about something like this

unless you want it to be faster, i'd reccommend getting the exact same thing for minimal issues

The 1100 is designed to use a desktop P4 CPU
The mobile P4m has more extensive power saving modes than the desktop P4.

if i put a cpu that has a 533 fsb in my computer aposed to a 400fsb would it kill my computer?

It won't kill it but it probably won't run properly. Your best bet is to stay with what matches the board.
