Not many of the countries are known for their "Human Rights" records. so it doesnt really surprise me

The real power of the Internet seems to me to reside in its being a place where the free interchange of ideas and knowledge can flourish. Whenever this freedom is curtailed---and governments will always say it is for our own good---its great power is diminished. It is noteworthy that even in Mainland China and in Iran, where despotic governments attempt to control thought, that their citizens find ways to bypass their efforts.

Instead of worrying about 1984 with all the cameras and such as in Great Britain we might as well be worrying about 2084.

Not that far, if you think of Banning books to be the same as Burning them. And you don't have to look very far for examples.

Sadly, if you think about it, Banning of written word has in one form or another, been happening since even before Gutenberg's day. Its just wasn't done so much as the "common" people could hardly afford something as expensive as a book ( let alone be able to read it )
