BleepingComputer.com: Can't load Word Perfect 6.1

I can't load my Word Perfect 6.1. When I click on the icon or load it from Applications, I get the message:

"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

and that's as far as I can get. I tried to reinstall from CD, but it won't let me past this same message. I had some malware I just got rid of with the help of your administrators, but now this has cropped up. Any help would be appreciated. If it's of help, I've attached my latest HJT scan.

Download and install 16bit_fix.exe from http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/16bit_fix.htm. That should take care of your immediate problem.


As for the HJT log...

P2P Networking is a totally useless Kazaa (or other file sharing program) add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns. You can unistall this program from Add\Remove Programs.

Other than that, the log looks clean.

Hi, Ddeerrff. Thanks for the help. The install worked like a charm and now I'm able to use Word Perfect again. Also, thanks for checking my HJT scan and the suggestion concerning the P2P Networking program. I have wondered for some time if that was really necessary to keep and if it had any bearing on the performance of my PC.

I thought the 16 bit fix would also solve my problem with windows xp, which is similar as I try to run wordperfect 6.1, a similar message as mentioned comes up and , tried the 16bit fix but then "cannot find shell.dll message comes up. Any and all help would be appreciated for a new member. thanks in advance
