Spybot S&D finds: zlob.videoaccessactivex oblect. It tell me is has fixed it but I have run it 3 times now and it's still there. My IE has been hijacked and there is a 'security bar' now installed that cannot be removed. The homepage is hijacked as well and upon opening and infact upon attempting to find my usual home page, I am directed to http://updateallpage.com/. I get pop ups telling me there are system security issues and pop ups from the task bar advising of poor system performance. All generally advise me to go to System Doctor and buy there product. There are unrelated pop ups too and the system is generally slow. Running Windows firewall. Have down loaded Zone Alarm but not using it yet. Should I? Windows XP SP2. All updated. Please can someone help me get rid of all this rubbish. Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you.
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop. Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present). Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply. **If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there. Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user. http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm -------------------- If I have helped you in any way, please consider a donation to help me continue the fight against malware.[ Start Here ] [ Adaware 2008 ] [ Spybot ] [ AVG Antivirus ] [ Superantispyware ] [ MalwareBytes ] [ Spyware Blaster ] [ Windows Update ] [ How to install Windows XP Recovery Console ] |

Sam. Thanks you're a star.
Since my original post though, I have stumbled across Smitfraudfix on this website. I ran through the instructions last night as per the page, and have seemed to removed the program and all it's adware. Below is a search that I have done this morning. Perhaps you can tell if anything is still required to be removed? Or if somethings gone that should be there? Also there was the questions of firewalls. Are the Windows and McAfee firewalls adequate or would the Zone Alarm (either free version or purchased upgrade) be more suitable? Or 6 one 1/2 dozen the other? Your Smitfraud log looks pretty good.
You should fix these lines with Hijackthis if they are still present. O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7A8F5B7A-A74F-495E-8A33-DF6226D2BAD8} - C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Access\iesplg.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: Protection Bar - {31615D5C-5126-448A-818A-A7CDFEE85A9B} - C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Access\iesbpl.dll As far as a firewall, Mcafee and Zone Alarm are comparable to each other and it really comes down to personal preference. Although if I had to pick between the two I'd probably go with Zone Alarm. The firewall that comes with Windows is better than not having one at all, but does not offer the recommended level of security that you really need now days. I hope that helps. -------------------- If I have helped you in any way, please consider a donation to help me continue the fight against malware.[ Start Here ] [ Adaware 2008 ] [ Spybot ] [ AVG Antivirus ] [ Superantispyware ] [ MalwareBytes ] [ Spyware Blaster ] [ Windows Update ] [ How to install Windows XP Recovery Console ] |
