Thank you Scarlett for your very nice post with the get-to-know-the-site links. I found this site quite a while ago and never used it until recently when I wanted to speed up my computer's start-up time. Microsoft's own help sites were so esoteric that finding real help in them was impossible. But then I found the Start-Up List tab on this site. It was like the sun came up after a moonless night! I love Grinler's tutorials. The Autoruns program that was recommended in the posts works very well.

Reading through many posts I see that some members don't know as much as others about their computers, software, etc. However, I did not see any rude or demeaning language directed at these members. Everyone starts at the beginning sometime and it's nice that everyone is so friendly and helpful. I appreciate that.

I will be looking for information on another topic soon and I'm sure I'll find lots of answers. Thank you all in advance.

This website has already paid significant dividends. I am feeling less apprehensive towards my computer. For example, I no longer feel the need to hunker behind a matress and poke at it with a stick to turn it on. icon_bananas.gif

Just a retired expat whiling away his days in Thailand, sometimes by messing about with computers. Today I had a problem with any USB sticks causing my machine to reboot. A search on the internet came up with your site and gave me some ideas for the solution. I stumbled on the exact solution from those ideas and just wanted to post my experience to help others.

Howdy. I am a new member here. I do a lot of work with computers, so of course, I run into a lot of problems. If I could just install the operating system, use a few pieces of software, and stay away from the internet, I probably wouldn't have many problems. But of course, I also would have no fun!

I am presently trying to pare down a single core HP Pavilion, Athlon computer, eliminating unnecessary startup files and so forth. I will now start looking for ways to do that beyond the usual things I already know. I am an experienced computer user, an electronics design engineer, and I am starting up a new company (I have done this before, quite some time ago, though....). However, most of my work has been in what would be called "hardware", as well as "firmware". I do a reasonable amount of programming, but I need more experience with it, as well as help with the nuances and quirks of Windows, Linux, Mac OS, etc.

Looking forward to being here often. (Wait! Does that mean I want to have problems so I will have to come here for help? Maybe I am not looking forward to being here as much as I thought!)

regards,

Larry Holmes

Hi everyone!

Had some really useful malaware/virus tips from this site a couple of times so I thought I'd share own problem-solving experiences with your good selves.

keep up the good work
