BleepingComputer.com: Using Paint To Edit Pictures

Howdy,

I had never opened the Microsoft Paint program until today.

I have noticed others using that program are able to write notes on their pictures, draw arrows, etc;

I tried using the pencil provided to write a note and draw an arrow but the final result looked as if a 1 year old had been scribbling.

I know I am getting older and my dexterity is not what it use to be but my gosh it looks terrible. I am left clicking the mouse, holding it down and trying to navigate the pencil.

Is that how it is done ?

Is there another tool in the program I should be using ?

I've never used Paint before, so I wouldn't take these as the definitive answers.
I opened it up, to play with it a little, and this is what I found:

To draw a straight line with the Pencil tool, either horizontall, or vertically, hold down the Shift key, while drawing.

To write decent looking text, is a little harder.
It came out fairly decent, if I did it this way:

Click the Magnifyer, and select 8x.
Write out your text, as carefully as you can.
When done, click the Magnifyer again, and select 1x.
Increasing the magnification, seems to give you a little more control of the quality of the text.
This also works for drawing fairly decent Arrows.

I would suggest you take a few minutes and try each of the different items in the "Tool Box" area of Paint.

There is a straight line drawing tool, a curved line drawing tool, and a "text box" tool that lets you select differnt fonts, colors, and sizes for your text, among other items.

You can't hurt anything by simply messing around with it.

Here's a MS Paint Tutorial that may be helpful. (I didn't look at all of it, but it does seem to cover the basics.)

Some the kind of things you might want to do are somewhat simpler and easier if you use the free application, IrfanView.
