We've had our Dell Dimension E521 with Vista Home Premium for about a month, with just the standard problems of learning the new system. Then about a month ago, we started to have problems with the mouse stalling--don't know what else to call it. It happens in games that came with Vista (solitaire, minesweeper, Mahjongg), and with loaded games (Sims), and sometimes when just working on regular files. The mouse will not move for 10 - 45 seconds, then flashes up the circular "working" icon and then starts moving again. The timer for the game will continue to count, but I cannot get the cursor to move, either with the mouse or with the keyboard. Usually you use the mouse 3 or 4 times, and then you cannot--until it clears itself. At the same time this started, our solitaire game started always opening by asking us if we wanted to restart the saved game. I've tried playing the "saved" game, and have finished it, but it still comes up the next time, with the exact same saved game. Are these two problems related? All updates are current, but we suspect this problem came in with one of them. Thanks--I think it is stalling Windows Media player also, causing the music to sound horrible. Erin (wolffoley) |
