I am actually trying to figure out this problem for my brother who has limited knowledge about computers.

He has an older Toshiba 1415 Laptop running Windows XP with only 256K Ram (Ugh!). He has an Epson Stylus CX 5400 All In One printer attached on LPT1. He had AOL for his email but got tired of their crap and decided to drop them and go with Gmail (after all I consider AOL a legal virus!!!). Before he dropped the AOL service, everything was printing out just fine. He would get e-mails through AOL, need to print them out, hit the print button on the screen and print out his emails just fine. He installed and setup his Gmail account before leaving AOL. He uninstalled AOL and now when he tries to print out any email from Gmail, it comes out all garbled with a bunch of strange characters on the page and usually spits out two or three pages in the process. Think uninstalling AOL screwed something up somewhere?

The strange part is that he can print just fine using his word processer or from a PDF file. I had him make sure he had the latest drivers for Windows XP and all that.

Could it possibly be because of the limited amount of RAM he has on this laptop? I know Windows XP consumes a fair amount of the RAM so with only 256K there would not be very much left to work with. I cannot figure out any other reason why his Gmail's will not print out without being garbled/garbage.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If the problem is remnents of AOL, you'd have to do some registry tweaking. More info and somewhat safer alternatives here:

Try uninstalling the printer, then uninstalling the printer software. Then reinstall a freshly downloaded copy of the software from the Epson website.
