A better alternative is to use a startup manager like Startup Control Panel, Autoruns or Starter by CodeStuff.

egames1 (a game)
media detect (corel photo album 6, which I don't use)
WIN Clean (DELL/WINCLEAN.exe)
DVD Launcher (Program files/Cyberlink/PowerDVD/DVDlauncher.exe)
ehtray
GoogleDesktop
mimboot (music match, always tries to access internet as soon as I turn on computer)
NVmctray
qttask (quicktime)
jusched
UbdReg
I don't see these listed in Administrative Tools- Services so I can't disable them there. I've removed a few items from startup before and it has never given me this error. Would disabling any of these be causing the error? When I turn the computer back on the screen that tells you changes have been made using msconfig pops up. All of the boxes that I unchecked are still unchecked, but when I hit ok, it still gives the access denied error. I hit ok on that screen and it prompts me to restart my computer. It does this every time I startup.

It'll place an applet in your Control Panel that's named "Startup" - just double click on it to launch it.
Then just locate these programs in the Startup CPL program after you install it and remove the checkmarks from next to them (DON'T delete them just yet). Then reboot and see if it worked.
**If you need a more detailed explanation, please ask for it. I have the Knack. **

I am now using sp3 of xp.
I can not uncheck in msconfig in the startup tab.
Auto run will work.
So did regedit, but I do not suggest you use regedit as this can get you in hot warter.
Although I have the problem my son does not?
I am not using a NEW HP ( I hve a H P L J 4L) but I am going to look at the HP driver updates next.

have you tried to run Dial A fix
you will have the option to remove the restriction on the computer
(Possible that MSCONFIG was disable by the virus)
http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix#...2C_and_articles
then run Malwarebytes or go to safety.live.com
hope this help..

Today 3-31-09 I found out that my son also has the problem, (Can not un-check in Msconfig), he just did not know it.
He found a quick program to fix it but did not test it yet.
