I don't have any icons on my desktop, I use the Quicklaunch tool bar for the programs I use a lot and the Desktop tool bar for access to the Recycle Bin and My Computer.

Great tip Izzy. Especially for those who have an abundance of icons.
Ronbo, I have a question. A couple of months ago, my quick launch items disappeared on my taskbar. Any idea where they went or how to get them back? -------------------- |

You should be able to get the quicklaunch toolbar to show by right clicking on any open space on you taskbar, going to toolbars and selecting quicklaunch. Or by right clicking the taskbar, selecting properties and putting a check mark in Show Quick Launch. If this doesn't work, let me know.
The actual folder itself is located in C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer (this is with Win XP Pro). -------------------- |

It says "cannot create toolbar" using right click, toolbars, Quick launch.
The second option I don't have in mine. Third, I don't have XP, I have ME. Wonder what made this happen, though. -------------------- |

AdAware may have something to do with it. Read this at the Lavasoft Support Forum. It talks about XP/2000 but could well apply to ME.

another tip...
when you install programs some will have the option to add an icon to desktop, which you can untick if you don't want it there, same with a quick launch. |

Yes, and when you install programs
and have multiple partitions/drives and do not want them on your primary OS drive (to keep it free of clutter & make it easier to regulate/defrag) ALWAYS browse for an alternative location. This will sometimes mean:
An easier & faster defrag all around. Better situation for windows to deal with it's operational requirements, particularly on boot initialization. -------------------- patiently patrolling, plenty of persisant pests n' problems ...

An excellent question, and one that deserves a good answer.
My answer will not be totally good. Here is why:
Details vary in the same way that they do in individual HJT logs. One PC at a time, and the problems can be met with research and/or trial & error. I know of no other way, safely. -------------------- patiently patrolling, plenty of persisant pests n' problems ...

So becuase i don't have an actual WIndpws CD could i just purchase a professional XP disc in upgrade XP Home, that way i would have an actual windows CD?
can you actually have 2 drives? you could have 2X 260GB hardrives which means you have 520GB of space right? (well less cause you gotta have Windows) but trouble would be it would be slower? or would you get a fast drive or something? |
