Writable Cd Help!

I visited future shop yesterday to get myself a new pack of writable cd's since i was out. I bought a 30pack for about 20 dollars....the exact name would be Memorex Printable CD-R 700MB 80Min which right at a max of 52x

I've tried burning Ubuntu and DSL to it...and it just shows up with 0bytes left(originnaly has about 702,000,000 bytes i checked) and with no files on it. I put a CD in to check the file system and its RAW. Isnt the File system usually CDFS? does anyone know WHY i cant burn stuff to these CD's? Did future shop rip off the little guy...again? can i return them?
