I have a new laptop and have MS Office 2003 installed. Can anyone tell me why it takes Outlook so long to open for me. I have the same version installed on another notebook and it opens in a flash.

Once it does open, it takes for ever get into the Inbox, or anything else for that matter. All this is after my computer has been up and running for awhile.

Do I have a control setting that's wrong? Any thoughts?

May i see your system specs?
Did you install any Anti-virus program lately?
Is it just Outlook2003 that is slow or is it thesame to all the other programs?

I don't use Outlook, but if you Google "Outlook slow" (without quotes), help may be there for you.

May be reinstalling may help solve the problem also....
I'm not sure if Outlook 2003 is a memory hog or not
I have Outlook 2007 and it works smoothly
It only uses about 20,000k and should hardly be slowing my system
But i don't use Outlook

Sorry, I should have given more info.

Yes, this is a new install as my laptop is new. Both computers had Office 2003 downloaded from the same disc.
My computer guy talked me into using Norton Internet Security 2007, and I'm thinking Norton may be the problem, but not certain.

XP-Pro, SP2, 2GB RAM

I don't use Norton, but that could be your problem. Also, just about any anti-virus program will probably slow you down to one degree or another, if it's scanning emails.

I have seen many complaints about Norton on various forums. Try disabling or uninstalling and see if the problem goes away. (Please unplug from the Internet while testing.)

Norton is also famous for being a memory hog
So It mignt not be Outlook that is slow but all other programs that you're running
If ever Norton is active
