BleepingComputer.com: Removing Quick Time

hey guys having problem removing quicktime of my p.c now the problem is it won,t start if i try and run a file in it (never really use it though) tried to uninstall from control panel as it runs on start up and as i cant open it was trying to remove it,however when i tried to remove it got message fatal error during installation
could anyone help out please thanks

Hi mz30.

Just checked Quicktime on my machine and there is an uninstall option at Start>>All Programs>>Quicktime. Have you tried that?

i was pretty sure i had alredy done that but just tried and it removed first go.

ah just went to control panel and it was still there tried to remove and got same fatal error message

Might disappear when you reboot????????

Try re-installing it and the uninstalling it.

done that still there

Just a thought. You need QuickTime or QuickTime Alternative to play some videos on the net. Why do you want to remove it?

It may have something to do with running ITunes.

If you delete all reference in Program Files it may go, but it is possible it may cause other problems. Don't really know.

hi rowal reason to remove is tht it does'nt work and i never use it (it never worked when i re-installed either)
can't be i-tunes as i don't have it thanks for your help

QuickTime nestles deep into the registry. You have to delete all references to QT in the registry..Install it again and after that uninstall in safe mode.

I wanted to do the same thing with windows media player, internet explorer, and messenger, but microsoft has made this task exceedingly difficult. WMP won't stream, ie sucks, and I have never used messenger since I have aim instead.
Anyway, have you tried going into msconfig (start, run, msconfig) and unchecking qttask, then rebooting and uninstalling? That should take it out of the background so it can't see you uninstalling it and maybe that will work.

no joy thrillhouse this is getting really strange ,does anyone else have the same problem?

1. Go to C:\Program Files, then delete the entire QuickTime folder.

2. Click Start - Find/Search - All Files And Folders, select the hard drive ( C: ) to look in, type in QuickTime, then click Find/Search. when the list of files appear, right-click on and delete all the ones that you confirm are associated with QuickTime.

3. Click Start - Run, type in REGEDIT, then click OK. Click the + in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software

In the Software sub-menu, right-click directly on the Apple Computer entry, then click Delete - Yes.


(Note: If you click the + in the "Apple Computer" entry, you'll see "QuickTime" listed there)

or if you are not comfortable poking around the registry :

Download install and update Ccleaner
Attention : the installation package comes with the Yahoo toolbar
if you do not want that you have to, untick the box accepting it during installation process.

After installing and updating go to options - advanced and tick prompt for registry back ups
Now Start up in safe mode
Do two runs

1) Click on problems and tick all. Click on analyse. At the end you will be prompted for storing a backup.
This will be stored, as a default, in My documents.
2) Click on cleaner click on analyse and accept all files to be removed.
