I began having router trouble recently, and now can't access my router setup using the 192.168.1.1 address. Can this address change somehow? Sometimes I can access the internet wirelesy, many times I can't. I'm thinking time to upgrade.

what you could do is the following :

1) take out the connection between router and your pc
2) shutdown your router by taking the electricity off
3) restart the computer
4) put the router on
5) connect the computer with the router ( I assume it is with utp cable)
6) START RUN type CMD in the dosscreen type ipconfig /flushdns
7) Most Internet connectivity problems arise out of corrupt Winsock settings due to the installation of a networking software or Malware infestation.

If your using Windows XP SP2, log on as an administrator.
Go to Start > Run and type: cmd
Press OK or Hit ENTER.
A dos Window will appear. Type or copy/paste the following: netsh winsock reset
Hit ENTER.
When the program is finished, you will receive the message: "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset."
Close the command box and reboot your computer.

I can sometimes connect. The solutions suggested did not help. I cannnot connect to the web through my router, unless I turn off the security features of the router. Even if I set it up as it should be, if I try to connect, the only way I can connect to the web, is if it bypasses my settings, and chooses an unsecure option. I'm just gonna go buy a new router. I called linksys, and they want $30 to offer assistance. No thanks.

Have you looked to see if a firmware update is offered at the Linksys site for your router? Could you list the router model. We may know of an issue with a certain model of router.

Lucky guess. It is easiest to update than to configure. Alway start simple unless you know the answer. You can get in over your head later.
