I found while looking at a link from Leurgy a while back. http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/tips_fixes.htm Here there is a fix for the problem I seem to be experiencing as do you. Tried the fix it suggests but no luck. Hopefully a new system install should get rid of any problems I'm having now and also clear my computer of all the old programmes I never use. Thanks for all the help Leurgy, can't thank you enough for your time. Should be ok from here on in. Dan |

Hi there,
a long night again yesterday.. some friends having problems with the install of software, which did not give me a lot of time to check things out. Anyway, the link to http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/tips_fixes.htm seems a move in to the right direction. Well, I don't use adaptec, but the problem seems to be related. I have re-installed XP SP2 (and yes, I disabled the firewall Unfortunately I am one of those guys that can't afford a full re-install, nor removing programs, as I need these on a daily base. The truth is out there! Val ps yes Dan, keep posting! |

It like the Truman Show, everyone wanting to tune in and see how my day has gone with my PC.
I'll keep you all informed. Think I'll go with the Fat32 install as this should help me access my old drive easier. The question is, will the drives allow access. I'll try them at various stages throughout my new install to see if they do begin to fail as I install SP2. Dan |

QUOTE The question is, will the drives allow access. Access won't be a problem at all. I have three hard drives and two of them are partitioned so my CD drive is G:. The Truman show? Oh Dear
Got my new hard dirve and RAM today. Removed my old hard drive and inserted the new one and the RAM. Booted from my XP pro disc. First problem seemed to be that I had set the drive to read as a master with a slave using the jumpers but the old drive wasn't connected so their was no slave. Got the Error message "Primary Master Hard Drive Fail". When I removed the jumper and re-started the install began properly. I managed to partition the new drive with 20Gb space using FAT, it told me that it was going to use the FAT32 system as the partition was large. The other 60gb I left unpartitioned (not sure now if I needed tio do something to the other 60Gb). All seemed fine as it then partitioned and installed the files with the yellow bar. Then the red bar screen and the computer restarted. The system then showed the XP loading page with the little blue bar at the bottom. BUT THEN!!!! The screen went blue again and the message: "The Image user32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum" The computer does not respond to any command or key. I haev tried restarting the pc and the same thing happens. I have also tried booting from the CD again and re partition the drive etc but the error appeared again. Please Help!! Daniel |

OK re-check, found the link below.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...7&Product=winxp Removed the new RAM card I got and re-partitioned and installed etc, no error messsage so XP is off installing it self. I'm on my Housemates PC by the way, incase that was confusing you. I'll check back when I have installed everything and it's hopefully ok. The RAM will have to go back to the shop though, must be faulty. How would I check if the RAM is faulty once my install is complete? Dan |

Coming Live to you from my new XP install.
First problem after the successfull install is that in my computer I have a C: which is 20Gb which is what I partitioned. But How do I access the other 60Gb which I left unpartitioned? Dan |

It will be accessable after it is partitioned and formatted. I imagine you could do that with the CD you got with the new hard drive.

The drive didn't come with disk!
I have found it in my device maintenence system, it won't let me format the second 60Gb partition as FAT32, only NTFS. How can I format the drive with FAT32, or make the other partition NTFS? I have put the RAM card back in after the install and have not reseived any errors. Checked on Crucial.com to see if their check system recognised the RAM was there and it did. How do I know if the RAM card is working. Does not seem to be in device manager. Good news is the drives and all USB ports are working correctly!! Dan |

Boot with that 98 boot disk if you still have it and run Fdisk on the second partition and then Format it. Make the partition all the remaining space. That will make it Fat32. Then you will be able to write to the drive.
When you first turn on your computer the very first writing that shows up will show your amount of ram in the top left corner. Also one of the other tabs where device manager is will show your ram. -------------------- **** We use our powers for good, not evil **** When the only tool you own is a hammer, every problem begins to resemble a nail. whilst tryin to sort the partition I discovered that my old hard drive was formatted in NTFS. Don't know why I thought it was FAT32.
So, I decided to reinstall the XP on the hard drive using NTFS, rather than the FAT32 system which had installed ok. Unfortunately my luck has prevailed once again and the system alowed me to reinstall the partition etc on the new hard drive but then the error message "The Image user32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum" again!! This time though removing my new RAM card has no effect, the message appears when using either RAM card of the two I have on thier own or as a pare. Both cards work fine as I can still run XP from my old drive and do not receive the error. I don't think me and pc's are meant to be together! Any help on this one as I'm out of ideas. Dan |

Re-install with NTFS on the new drive and make sure XP partitions and formats BOTH partitions.

Since my last post I managed to get XP to install, then I went through all the updates. Then when the computer reset after SP2 install it would no longer start, getting to the xp loading screen and then resetting itself. Got up this morning and ran a new format of the partitioned drive from scratch and got the RAM error message again. Started again formatting and installing the partitions and didn't get the error so managed to update windows and crossed my fingers after the SP2 install but all seems well. I know have my new hard drive partitioned (20/60Gb) and my old hard drive which I formatted aswell. Was able to transfer all my old files to the new drive prior to the format of the old drive so all is well. And best of all, the drives are working, the usb ports are working. It feels good to have a working computer! I've install AVG and Ad-Aware so hopefully shouldn't get anymore problems any time soon. I can also recommend the microsoft optical mouse i bought, installed itself within a couple of seconds and works amazingly smoothly compard to my knackered ball mouse. Leurgy thankyou so much for your time helping me out, just hope you won't have to hear from me any time soon. Daniel |
