I have a custom pc with a AMD Duron 1.80GHz 512 MB of RAM 20GB HDD
with 8 GB free and a second HDD of 10GB with 5GB free. Win XP Home
with SP2
runs ok.
what do you think i would be better doing:
1.) Buy a vista upgrade.
2.) Buy a new pc with vista pre-installed
The only thing is that I can get a vista Business Upgrade for £99.

Server 1- 2.8GHz Intel Celeron, 1GB Ram, 160GB HDD, DVD-RW, Windows Home Server
Server 2 - 1.9GHz Intel P4, 385 MB Ram, 40GB HDD, DVD-ROM, Windows Server 2003 Standard

I would seriously advise waiting to install Vista at least until the first SP is issued. To run Vista on your current computer would require at the very least additional RAM---Each new version of Windows requires more and more RAM, as do the applications designed for it--- and you would probably want to get larger hard drives at some time.
There is no really compelling reason to rush to Vista, so waiting a few months to get a new computer or build yourself a new one/do a major upgrade on your current box, seems to make sense.

In order to run Vista on that machine, you would need to do some serious upgrading. The RAM needs to increase to at least 1GB, you also need to have a higher capacity hard drive, and you probably would need to upgrade to a better graphics card. By the time you do all that, you may be better off buying a new PC or building a new one.
