Hi, I just bought a new Dell Notebook that had Norton 2004 installed on it. When I tried to uninstall it it said I needed to "login" to my account. Since this laptop is not connected to the internet I couldn't do that. So I decided to go to the Symantec website and look for removal instructions, which they didn't have posted for the 2004 version. Then I thought about emailing Symantec with my question. Which didnt help at all as I couldnt find a tech support email address or free tech support phone help listed. So I was hoping you floks could post some step by step directions or post a link that would help me in doing this.

Thanks for the help in advance!
Polly

I followup a NV2004 uninstall with some registry nuking. Copy the "code" into a new text file and name it byenav.reg . import byenav.reg into your registry manually or double click the file

edit: hmm that didn't work. I'll host it as a TXT file. Editing your registry can be dangerous. Always make a backup before attempting modifications of any kind. An excellent backup utility is ERUNT

( nav2004xp_reg_removal.txt )

I found these instructions on symantec's site some time ago but I cannot find you the original URL. Maybe you, too, can find it after a few frustrating hours of searching. ;)

polly.
It took me a week to find out how to get in touch with Norton.
Here goes.
Google: type in Symantec.
Next page:click Symantec world wide home page.
next page:click support
next page:click continue
next page: click free on line support
next page no 2 option. fill in your product.
next page:click knowledge base.
next page:click installation issues.
next page:click contact.
next page:click free on line support.
next page: fill in form and send or submit.I cant remember what it says.
Are you surprised it took me a week and that was before Bleeping.
They normally reply over night and they know what they are talking about.
I am not a great lover of Norton products but their support is first class.
Hope this helps
Regards.

[SIZE=7]from missfilippa:
IF you are seeking to install another Symantec product, by simply installing it, the Norton 2004 AV wil be automatically uninstalled.

I had Norton AV 2004 and wanted to install 2005 (av and firewall). I called
symantec (norton) @, 1 800 441 7234. You can also try the SALES dept. @
1 800 631 8124.

I installed Nor AV 2005 right over 2004 and 2004 was uninstalled. Did the same with the 2004 Firewall and when I installed the 2005 version, the 2004 was
simply uninstalled. Good luck.........

Try one of these tel. #s. 877-832-2810:-- 800 441 7234: ---- . Also[SIZE=14]
Also.. if you are intending to install another Norton product on the Laptop here is
a method I found when I wanted to Install NAV 200 over 2004 Professional..... ohmy.gif

Just install the new Norton product and the installation of the new product will
AUTOMATICALLY uninstall the older product... very neat IF you are installing
a new Version of the same product or another Norton product...

good luck, another tel#= 800 631 8124. Make sure they do NOT charge you a
fee. Therefore, best to call the sales office.... 800 631 8124...
