I don't believe so (please, anyone, correct me if I'm wrong). The AMD Sempron 3400+ uses a 754 pin socket whereas the Intel Pentium 4 Duo uses a 775 pin socket. These two socket types are incompatable.

No, no way. You can't interchange any processor with another. A few things have to match up between the processor and motherboard. Socket, FSB, etc.
No Intel and AMD processors are interchangable with each other. That's enough to say no right there. On top of that, the other specs don't match up. Also worth noting, there is no Pentium 4 Duo processor. You're probably thinking of Core 2 Duo. If you even want to consider upgrading your system, it's important to know that. It's too easy to mess up. |

Sempron 3400+ comes in both 754 and AM2 variants. The deciding factor as to to what and if at all you can upgrade is your motherboard. That is what we need to know to be able to help you. Helpful would also be the rest of the specs for the computer and why you need to upgrade.

ok i understand is there a way to find out what type motherboard is in the computer without opening up the tower. the reason i want to upgrade so that the computer would go faster than it does now. and if possoble i would like to upgrade to the amd athon duo processor

those are two different companies and two totally different chips. Intel and AMD mobo arent interchangeable. Im sorry if this has been said but i was too lazy to read the posts above me lol.

FYI - this appears to be one of the HP SlimLine systems - and it may give you more problems with cards than with a mobo (due to the reduced size available to place a card).
