I am building a new computer with the following key pieces: MB: Biostar K8M800 Micro AM2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813138038 CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16819103732 Memory: 2 x 512MB DDR2 533 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16820141225 When I power up, I get a single short beep, followed by a graphical screen with "Biostar" and "Press [Del] to Enter Setup". I can also hear the CD-ROM spinning up(with an XP install disc inside), but no amount Del pressing or anything else will get a response. The keyboard works, is connected via PS2, and flashes it's lights when the power comes on. Also curious, the MB manufacturer's webpage: http://www.biostar.com.tw/products/mainboa...0%20Micro%20AM2 says it only supports Sempron CPUs despite reviews(and product description) on NewEgg saying it works with Athlon 64s. Am I missing something or am I stuck with defective or incompatible hardware? thanks in advance |

Try resetting the CMOS, either through the jumper or pulling the battery. You can usually press [tab] to bypass the motherboard's splash screen, but that can vary based on the mobo manufacturer.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I tried both to no avail.
edit: Correction, Tab does bypass the splash screen, now to find the reason for the freeze... This post has been edited by Laeth: Jan 29 2007, 10:22 PM |

When it comes to CPU support I would trust the manufacturers site above that of Newegg.
