She was told not to shut it down and the responsibility to march a whole class of kids out the room to another location is risky, especially considering the threat level. She did a fine job in my opinion. I will send this to my local news. I will stress to them the importance of her inability to control what comes up on an infected machine and how their maintenance was suspect. I feel very strongly about thes travesties of justice and always try to pitch in. Thanks for the post,it is a good thing. I am with you on this it is not totally Julie's fault.
But she is not totally blameless. I am sure there are certain things you know to be ethically right and some that are not. I would say that this comes in the latter. I know she paniced but if you were in her shoes and this happened and you were thinking of the students wellbeing you would turn off the machine. Even if you are told not to this is not a subject to treat lightly and it is better to be told off for turning the machine off than to be up for a court case. Yes the school is to blame this should not be allowed to happen and I am sure that the only reason they are going through with the court case is because they need a scape goat. The school would likely loose funding if they are shown to be in the wrong so due to media coverage in the local area this is forced appon them. They have to prosicute to try and possibly save the school. It is all political BS but it is the newspapers fault or whoever covered the story and let it get out into the public domain. If this was not the case I am sure the school would not have done anything and covered it up. This is a catch 22 as I am sure if the school recieved more funding it would be able to keep the security going and this would not have happened. So does that mean it is the governments fault. Personally I think the issues go alot further than just seeing a few popup on the screen. This is not a blameless case for any of the parties. But I feel that the school should be the one that takes the consiquences of its actions. -------------------- ![]() |

I took a minute and e-mailed the reporter who published the report on the local news paper to see if they had heard anything about a petition or such going around and if not, maybe its time to start one, I personally found back in the day the fun and joy of porn popups and their unrelenting abilities, and well lets just say in a situation like that where the user is unaware of what to do, running for help is the best option, granted she probably could've unplugged hte monitor or such, But I have a feeling that she knew just enough about technology to get by with surfing on the web and such, Pretty much like the average user
In any case this is kind of hilarious from my point of view, and just shows the ignorance of the US justice system, Me being canadian and all, I hear nothing close to the cases that have happened down south, Then again my city is relatively non active and still growing, so I may yet live to see such things happen here, Doubt it though If I get any news back from the reporter on how to contact HER directly via mail or If there is a petition going Ill let you guys know, who knows, maybe after 3 million tech enthusiasts sign it they'll let her go lol.. Long shot but none the less |

Locally (Norwich is the town next to mine) the case doesn't have much credibility (no one can believe that the teacher would knowingly do this) - and it's faded from the news after the initial announcement.
I'll have to ask around to see if there's anything else being discussed about it. -------------------- - John

More info and it looks like the major media may be picking up this story of a bad defense and another prosecutor who was more interested in a conviction than justice.

I wonder why this has not been brought to the attention of the media. It brings out how careless our schools are when putting people in positions they should not be in. This substitute had no control over those porn pictures and anyone who knows anything about computers would know that. The school administration should be the ones on trial not the teacher. I recently came across a person who was a school computer resource teacher. She informed me that you could not replace a part in a computer, that the "box" was one piece and it did not come apart. This is a prime example of the school system putting people in places where they don't belong. I hope this poor substitute has good representation and does not suffer because of the idiots who are running the school

The effort of the Internet community has led to a review of the case, and a new trial has been ordered:

Yes, but even once the correct judgement is made, will the teacher get her job and reputation back?
What about the legal fees she's accrued, essentially due to what we all realize are false charges? -------------------- |
