I took it upon myself (stupidly) to update my bios. I have an MSI board, and used the flash utility. (through dos). I booted it up, and flashed the bios....It went successfully.....It told me to that if if doesn;t boot properly, clear your CMOS settings then reboot ????? as i rebooted, it said update OK, but CMOS wrong (or something like that...so I went into my bios setup, but there was no option to clear this???? anyway, I rebooted....and my screen just goes blank....nothing showing.....the computer is on but no bootup info at all... so I panick......I turn the computer off, power cable out etc.....I turn it on....and it boots up and into windows i go....phew!!! But now, for some reason, it thinks my CPU is an athlon 1250 XP!!! I have a 2600 XP processor. WHAT IS THIS??? How do I sort this out without screwing my motherboard please? much appreciated thanks |

Follow instructions below:" A diagram of your mainboard would be helpful, to locate that.  Click the thumbnail for a better view of an example mobo diagram. Yours will vary somewhat. I've used a bent paperclip to reset CMOS. You should type your motherboard name into google search bar. MSI will have a diagram of your motherboard. Use it to locate the JBAT1. With power off and exercising care regarding static electricity (ground yourself by touching the metal of your case & don't make moves that cause friction) pull the cover off your PC. Place the ends of the paperclip into the appropriate holes. That should do it. Replace the cover, power on. Note: "Avoid clearing the CMOS while the sytem is on, it will damage your mainboard." -------------------- patiently patrolling, plenty of persisant pests n' problems ...

yeah....i reset my cmos and it reset the date and time...but i set that up ok then I set the fsb speed to 166 (it defaulted to 100) then it started recognising it as a 2600XP chip. thanks by the way, I don't really know what other settings it changed....(should have made notes before) do you know what other stuff the flash bios might have defaulted? |

No, sambo80 I don't exactly. Good question.
BTW, do you have a new HJT log for me to check in HJT anaysis? It appears unresolved at the moment.
