deleting photos how do i get rid of them past and presen

i have literally mils of photos lurking on pc in all sorts of files. how can i view them and delete those not required, deletion of temp files and folders are not the answer as they seem to hide and then reappear.

Start> Search> Files and Folders> .GIF, JPG, & .BMP
