They are both wonderful programs.
It is all up to personal preference really. I had Avast then switched over to Free AVG. I find that AVG is just a little more user friendly. It is also much faster. IMHO -------------------- ![]() |

I too now choose to use AVG.
I have had Norton - too slow in updating; I got infected while using it too. Avast has gotten better in recent years (I've not used it in three or four). I have acquaintances who swear by Avast now days. I've just put McAfee on the sideline 'till my subscription runs out shortly. I was never infected while using McAfee, but IMHO it's a resource hog. And I was never happy with the auto-update feature which caused problems for me at times with some other running programs. Try them both out I'd say and choose your preference as Scarlett suggested. regards, ~Koan -------------------- |

Recently, I deleted AVG6 and installed AVG7, which gave me some problems in sending POP emails. I deleted AVG and loaded Avast. The latter seemed much slower and ate up too much resources, so I went back to AVG7. I have used AVG for several years, and have found it to be very reliable.

It is slightly less, as I see it, than AVG. Where the difference between the two was evident, at least on my computer, was the time it took each to do a complete scan, and the amount of memory each took up simply running in the background. In both of these areas, Avast seemed to be much slower, and to take up a lot more operating resources.
Since both are free downloads, you might want to give each of these a try. You may find one easier to use, or faster than the other (speed may very well depend on how you have your HD(s) configured or the amount of space used).
