Softex Omnipass Installed by default on Packard Bell

Anyone know how to get rid of this thing properly? It's some security thingy for god knows what... It's not on the add/remove programs list, and I can't find anything on it. I can disable it from startup in the windows services list, but I want to get rid of it. I also didn't want to disable it without knowing that it wouldn't mess anything up... doubt it would though. Any help would be appreciated, thanks :thumbsup:

Is this a new computer? If so, I suggest that you contact Packard Bell and ask them how to properly remove it. I did some searching online, but came up empty handed.

Softex Omnipass is a program for protecting your passwords. I don't foresee any adverse effects if you remove it....it's only a program and isn't required to operate the computer. I think the difficulty with uninstalling it is that it may be (or can be) set up to ask for a password before the OS loads (although it may not actually do this, it appears that it can still be set to this option).

HERE is the companies website, where you can email them and ask them how to uninstall it. Before I did that, I'd contact PB to see if they can help (they should be able to).

With all that said, I'd also like to say that if you don't use the program, and it's not hurting anything or keeping anything from running like it should be, then you might just consider leaving it alone (if it ain't broke, don't fix it!). It's not taking up to much room no your hard drive, and not interfering with the operation of the computer or any programs.....so you might just want to "leave well enough alone!".

I'll contact PB today, good idea. I won't go to the softex guys, I read on a forum elsewhere that someone did without a response. If they wanted it to be removed, they'd have included an uninstaller. It's not a problem having it on here, but I try to keep my startup programs to a minimum - I close it down every time I log on, so just trying to save myself a job. Thanks!

Either disable it from running at startup from inside the program, try removing the shortcut from your startup folder, or use a startup manager like the one included in Spybot.

PB should know how to uninstall this program. When I got my first computer, a HP, I called them and had them walk me through how to uninstall all the "free bonus software" that came pre-loaded. I was suprised how much they actually knew about it!

For keeping it from starting (if PB is no help), simply follow tg1911's advice :thumbsup:
