Thanks buddy215, I followed the first link in your last post and i now have my firewall settings working again. I will follow up with yet another virus scan just in case. Thanks again.
Some mornings I wake up grumpy, on others I let her sleep in.

So after you delete the WindowsFirewall folder, does it get recreated when you reboot? I did see this solution but was hesitant to delete from the registry. Do you delete the entire folder or just everything underneath it?

I did try the NETSH FIREWALL RESET but that did nothing.

Also, what do they mean by "standalone system" in the document?

The folder does not seem to be recreated but everything works fine. I backed up the entire folder and then deleted it.
I also tried netsh firewall reset with no result.
By standalone system i assumed they meant one that was not part of a network controlled by a group policy.
Some mornings I wake up grumpy, on others I let her sleep in.

Well, that worked for me too! Don't understand it though - I have another PC with the same keys and no problems there.
