I have no problem with WinAmp connecting to the internet for whatever reason, but why does it want to talk to MS?? Posted Image

Is this a legitimate request, and am I getting paranoid about 'phone homes'??
Cheers

Hi rowal5555.
"urs.microsoft.com" is the url that the phishing filter in IE7 uses.
It would "appear" that IE7 is seeing the winamp connection as a possible phishing attempt.
When the phishing filter attempts to "phone home", it's setting off your firewall.
For testing purposes, disable the phishing filter and see if it still does it.
On the flipside, unless you use winamp as your default streaming media player, there is no need for it to have internet connection functions. I haven't used winamp in years but there should be a settings option to stop it. If it auto updates itself, stop that as well.

Thanks HitSquad, that makes sense. Tomorrow morning I am off for a few weeks (computerless) holiday so will see what happens later.

Cheers to all.
