1. Windows Defender: Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused this program's service to stop. Start the service, restart your computer or search Help & Support for how to start a service manually. 2. Windows: Host Process for Windows Services stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available. The last thing I did, (I think!?) was allow it to install the Updates. Tried to restart defender, same error, rebooted, etc, found help & support provided little of either. I don't know what I did to cause this, but any repair advice would be appreciated! -------------------- AMD 64 X2, ECS 480-X, 1GB RAM, 250 GB SATA, 120 & 160 GB PATAs, NVIDIA GEForce 6200, SB Audigy 2 ZS, XP SP2, CounterSpy, Ad-ware SE, avast!, spybot s & d

Info on Vista errors is still rather sparse - generally the XP errors will be similar.
In this case, if both errors occurred around the same time, I'd suggest uninstalling the Windows Defender and then reinstalling it. The Generic Host Process for Windows is the svchost.exe. Go into Task Manager and add a column for PID (View...Select Columns) and then look for PID 920 (that's what it is on my system). Right click on it and select "Go to service(s) - that should show you that it's the one related to Windows Defender. -------------------- - John

try this,put you vista dvd in your dvd rom and reboot then when it ask to install or fix or repair or somthing to that accord choose fix and it will take you through a wizard and let it do its thing ,i had the same problem and it fixed it,try it .
