See the picture below for the screen shot of the error that I'm getting. I get this on a variety of pages, and it's quite aggregating. Just, out of the blue it comes up with this error (usually when I first try to open a page). I've gone as far as installing the latest version of flash player, and upgraded from v1.x to v2 of FireFox, and I still get this error message. I believe that I get it in IE, but I never use IE at home so I honestly don't remember if I get that error or not....ACK!!!!!!!!!!! I just tried IE to see if I could get that error, so I looked up Newzjunkie and clicked on the google result that should've brought me to the newzjunkie website...but it brought me elsewhere.....can you say "hijacked"? It brought me to www.ad.com instead.....grrrr...

Any chance that the shockwave error and the hijacking are caused by the same thing? Although, I don't get hijacked in FireFox.... :trumpet:

Here's the screen shot...I'm going to run some scans to see if I can't fix what's hijacked me :flowers:

I was having this problem before I upgraded to FF v2. I even updated/installed the latest version of flash player before I had installed FF 2. I'm wondering if this "hijacking" doesn't have something to do with it...?

Oddly enough, in one evening, I did the following scans: Adaware SE, CCleaner, Nortons AV (ran virus scan, also have real time AV enabled 24/7), ewido, PcPitstop and one or 2 others that I can't think of along with a system defrag on all drives.

The scans found nothing out of the normal, except for ewido found a trojan, so I deleted it, rebooted and ran ewido again and it came up clean. I still get the flash error and still get (unwillingly) redirected to that www.ad.com....and later it also redirected me a different site, some monster search or something like that.

Since you're still being "hijacked", then there's still some nasty's on your system. I'd suggest following the directions on the HiJackThis forum, and then posting a log there: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum22.html

That could be what's affecting your flash plug-in, but until the logfile is cleaned we can't tell (and attempts to mess with it may make it hide itself).

Ohhh.....I figured as much :flowers:

I think I may take this "opportunity" to just redo my entire machine. I've got an extra 40gb drive just sitting in a draw...I think that I"ll install it and put the OS on it and use my 200gb drive for everything else. Of course, I'll wipe the hdd clean before I do so. I was trying to hold out until after the holidays to redo my machine...but oh well, looks like I'll have to get off my lazy butt! :trumpet:

Thanks for the help everyone!
