BleepingComputer.com: I Can't Get Rid Of Norton!

Hi, I need help? I removed Norton with add remove option on Windows XP , ran the Norton Removal Tool available at Norton's website, ran the CCleaner, tried removing Norton's registries through RegSeeker 1.52. All went well until i discovered some registry keys on my HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE just wont delete! Their is an erruer 123 notice coming up everytime.I tried removing the keys manually but its the same error message flagging again! Ok, i tried booting in safe mode to see if it works this time. Nope! Same thing over and over again! Can someone tell me what's going on?????

I never heard of that error. Please show the entire text of your error message. The names of the keys would help too.

Hey nline since you asked for them here they are... just to sum it up again I tried the same routine for Norton/Symantec by typing *norton* and *symantec* in the search field of RegSeeker but wo there were entries for both of them! I use RegSeeker 1.52 to search and remove orphaned files and registries and it does a swell job but wo look at these entries for both of them for instance, these are norton entries,

1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM\CONTROL Set002\ENUM\HID\Vid_0461&pid_4d15\6&29e04f61&0&0000\*norton*

2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM\CONTROL Set002 \ENUM\PCI\VEN_1180&DEV 0843&SUBSYS_01BD1028&REV_01\4&2fe911e8&0&0AFO\*norton*

3)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM\CONTROL Set002\ENUM\PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27A6&SUBSYS_01BD1028&REV_03\3&61aaa01&0&11\*norton*

4)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM\CONTROL Set002\ENUM\PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0852&SUBSYS_01BD1028&REV_05\4&2fe911e8&0&0CFO\*norton*

........and another 4 entries like this! I try to delete them and an erreur N/S 123 displays preventing their deletion!

.....and another 2 entries just like these and they keep reappearing after i delete them again and again!

The big question is, what are these entries and why are they still here on my computer and why aren't these going away!

When you ran the uninstaller from Symantec did you run all three parts or only the main uninstall tool?

NortonKiller is a self extracting zip file with 3 programs labeled 1, 2, and 3. Run them in that order. See if that does a full purge of your system.

If after doing that the Windows Security Center still reports Norton as installed then post back here and I have a fix for that.

You can read about removing Norton in this topic: removing Norton. Later posts in the topic updated the links, so be sure to read through the whole thing. I used the manual tools and ran it three times, even though I wasn't prompted to, in order to get rid of it all.
