HI... I mistakenly (serious newbie...) put my whine on my Intro post and then as I read more realized the mistake I'd made.

Anyway, folks...

While on line and being harried to get some changes made to a website page I maintain, I was alerted by MS that there was an important update and, out of habit, I just clicked OK, figuring it was something to tighten up security or what-have-ya. I didn't notice that it was IE v7!

What a mistake that was!! I'm now unable to click on links in email or old internet links on my desktop to automatically open up IE.

The old links just bring up the following error dialog:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." This is a link not a file...

I got around the problem by moving the desktop links to Favorites. Crude, but it works...

Then, when I click on an email link or a link on another site, NOTHING happens. It's like there's a pop-up blocker, but the one I use does not seem to be the issue (the links do not show up in the "Blacklist").

I found if I drag the link over to an open v7 window, it works...

So, I've found a couple of crude ways to get v7 to work for me, but most are way too manual and v6 was wayyyyy more simple.

At this point, I'd love to back out, but, of course, there is no help from MS without paying for someone to get me out of the problems I feel they got me into. (OK... I'm a little bleepy right now, but my work is really gummed up).

Anyone else having these browsing issues v7?

Appreciate any help, including how I might back out of v7 if I cannot get around these issues and get back to v6 which worked WAY more intuitively (at least for me).

By the way, I'm on XP SP2 and the IE version is 7.0.5730.11.

Ron

To go back to IE6 just remove IE7 by using the Add/Remove program.

It might me a bit more complex, Your new verison of IE is overlapping over the old verison so to completly fix your problem you will want to remove both programs then down load this registry cleaner

http://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/o...google_registry

Remove both the nreinstall the deisred verison of IE
