In any case it sounds like something went wrong with Windows Media Player or your 'flash player'. Personally I would uninstall the software your having problems with and then reinstall.
Also think about using Real Alternative an free player that strangely enough is an alternative to 'RealPlayer'!! Also look out for Quicktime Alternative

it was all working fine before i did the system restore, but i restarted into safemode and did SOMETHING, i have know idea what, but when i restarted into regular mode, it worked, until i adjusted my firewall and it stopped working. i thought that might be the reason but it wouldnt work even after i completely disabled it, i tried uninstalling and reinstalling my firewall and that didnt work, i went into the application rules on my firewall and gave my media player full access. i have defender pro 5 in 1 2007. i tried going into safe mode to reset my security setting and it wouldnt let me access it in safe mode.

it appears you've got malware and a possible sound issue.
What is your Operating System.
What antivirus and spyware programs do you have installed
Did you try them in safe mode, what did they find
What firewall are you using
The original box, triangle, square problem sounds like a sound issue
What is your sound devive
Were ther any conflicts in the Device manager
