BleepingComputer.com: Strange Startup Items

Hi there all.
Got a real slow boot up problem. Have tried everything within my knowledge to repair and failed miserably. I've run sysinternals autorun and noticed two items with no explanation.
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components - This is reported as a 0 and file not found: About:Home
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions - This is reported as @xpsp3res.dll,-20001 and file not found C:\WINDOWS\Network
Can anyone shed any light on these two and could they be part of the problem ? I've dumped all unnecessary software, reduced running processes as much as possible and got rid of windows live messenger which has a link to microsofts usn journal. Since installing live messenger I found this usn journal running at chkdsk and my system files seriously fragmented. I dumped it and deleted the journal with a command from microsofts KB. After running diskeeper it was able to defragment the system files which look ok now. I've also got Microsofts automatic updates icon showing every time I bootup but downloading nothing and then disppearing. Never happened before until recently and I wonder if these two entries are causing it. I'm baffled, any help will be gratefully received.

I have the same thing...it is safe to ignore them.

thanks for your reply. Have defragged a dozen times using diskeeper premier pro. System files were all over the place, but that sorted itself as soon as I got rid of windows live and usn journal. Definitely something running at bootup still. Takes about 3 1/2 mins to do complete boot. I'm stumped. I've also run error repair pro, pctools registry cleaner, adaware se, ccleaner, spybot, norton pro for viruses,kazaabegone and anything else I can think of. Would posting a hijack log help ?

It may...you may have malware that is causing the slow down. Be warned it will be a couple of days before someone gets to your log though.

Thanks for getting back so quickly again Grinler. Quick question; Should I post the log in the regular forum for hijackthis logs or will it be okay in here ?

Sorry to hear about your problem, I know how that feels. Go to google and type in @xpsp3res.dll and it will show you a lot of takes on this type of file. Hope this helps.

If you want to post a hijackthis log do it in the hijackthis forum please.
