I want to install RC1 on my computer on a seperate partition from XP and be able to choose which OS to boot from when my computer starts up. My HDD is 280GB and is set in one partition. i know how to make a new partition out of unpartitioned space but not when all of the space is already partitioned. how would I create a new partition then install RC1 with the correct drivers on the partition? thanks in advance and i apologize for my ignoarance in creating partitions and installing an OS.

You'll need a third party tool such as Partition Magic or Acronis' Disk Director to do this (= $). There are free disk re-partitioning tools out there - but I haven't found one that's either reliable or easy to use. (I dunno if Vista can do this during the installation process - but don't believe so)

Once the partition is resized and the new partition is created - then just select the Custom installation during the Vista install routine and it'll let you pick the partition to install it on.

FYI - I did this with my latest build of Vista, and then started monkeying with my storage stuff (pointing my profiles and My Documents to another drive). At some point this hosed some of my stuff on XP. It was easily fixed, but a real PITA to have to do!
