Hi there,

got another question for you pros out there. I have Partition Magic running and bought a 200GB hdd a few month back. Ever since then I have tried to figure out how to get it working, since it orginally wouldnt even recognise my 200GB hdd.

I have had a look at the BIOS but cant find much and I am running out of ideas. Here are some screenshots from partition magic and from diskmanagement:

Diskmanagement:

partitionmagic:

I had been living with it so far, but it is annoying htat I cant allocate the 200hdd disk properly with partition magic, as I want to restructure my partitions and want to get a dual boot later on.

Thanks for any help,

Johannes

Since Windows recognizes the disk, I'd suspect that it's a problem with Partition Magic. As such, I'd recommend uninstalling, then reinstalling Partition Magic to see if it fixes the problem (there also may be updates to your version that are needed).

I would try a linux live cd with QTParted. My friend used that to partition his drives.. KNOPPIX has QTParted, and so do many other live distros, here's the KNOPPIX site if you're interested in that route: http://www.knoppix.org/

Hi Johannes.

I am absolutely no expert on partitioning HDDs but I added a 250GB to my system the other day and set it up with 4 partitions by using the right click menu in 'disk management'.
Does this not work for you?

Cheers

The error message that you've given us seems to indicate that you're trying to do too many things at once with Partition Magic (which, BTW, can cause real problems - that's why I stopped using it).

I suggest using the Operations menu and only doing one thing at a time.

Hi kbk,
If I use qtparted, does it allow me to partition ntfs disks? I am not a linux wiz and it seemed to me to be made for linux systems only?

Hi rowal,
unfortunately it only lets me delete the partitions already present or rename them as well as allocating new drive letters to them.

This one's a real "stinker"!

Is another format out of the question? Try formatting it using the manufacturer's tools (things like low-level formatting, fdisk, etc) to see if this rectifies it.

What happens if you delete all of the partitions? Will it let you make new ones?

Hi usasma,

unfortunately not an option as i ve started to fill those GBs there too and I have no external hdd. Might get a colleagues laptop to clean from malware tomorrow and borrow some of the space. If enough is available, I ll try that lol. Otherwise I ll just leave it as is.

rgds,

Johannes

THis new disk you have did it come to you with the partitions on it or did you make them on installing the drive.

If so what tool did you use to setup the original partitions.

Do you have any mapped drives using any other letters?

Just a few questions to get myself more scope about the issue.
