Hi there.

Sure this is something simple, but I've just built my new computer, its ready to have software installed.

so i boot up..run fdisk using a startup disk i made from an old computer. do all that, do format c:

then i restart it. it boots brom the floppy again. and i go start with cd-support bla bla.

and as its loading it says device name: mscd001
No drives found. aborting installation

then later it says

"device driver not found 'MSCD001'
no valid cdrom drivers selected

then a: prompt is there.

so i type
cd d:

and it becomes d: prompt

and i try doing setup.exe
and nothing works. just says bad command or filename. i tried heaps of variations like cd d:/setup.exe

Ive tried booting from a few different things too(with the f12 boot menu)

like hard drive. which comes up with system drive not installed.

to me, it seems like its not reading the cd drive properly. but i wouldnt have thought drivers needed to be loaded during DOS installation of win98.

any help would be much appreciated

Luke

DOS does not know about CDROM drives, so it does need a driver. The win98 boot disk should have them. I have had trouble with the boot disk making a ram drive, then running out of memory.

Try one of the Boot Disks at BootDisk.com. If you where inside your computer recently check the cables and make sure they are plugged in snuggle.
