That doesn't make sense. It is not possible for a program like AV to NOT impact the system. It uses memory and cpu cycles to do what it does. That is the minimum it can impact your system... then it also scans files as you use them affecting your I/O of data.
Granted it might not affect YOU very much in your opinion but it does affect your system and in MY opinion it is too much of an impact for me to trade off.

Absolute stupidest thing ever to do. Try to download something. Be told multiple times by your anti-virus that it is a virus. Ignore your anti-virus multiple times. Hey, presto, it's a virus.

Not really. Personal information such as school, employer, kids names, spouse, pets name, hobbies. Thats the kind of information that a thief can use to build a profile to steal your identity. Most of that information is not required to fill out a form or registration. However it can be divulged at a social network site via a posting.
