 Hello all!ok.......heres the situation.....my pc ......was running just fine .......then stuff just started acting funny........(running windows xp home) Like taking forever to boot up.and i mean forever!!  Also ......the windows media player would start automadically. I do not know how it got on the start up process .....it just did....Every thing started to take .........a lifetime to do........opening a window......going to another area.......getting lots of messages that states......."Explorer has performed an illegal......bla bla bla.......and will have to close". When explorer wasnt even open.!......anyways........now i cant even get my computer to start up or nuthin........doesnt even recognize the hard drive whatsoever......is it fried?.......I do not know the make or year of my pc....someone else just essembled it for me ........I know that is lame ....i should know these things.......but it was fine.......so i didnt think to ask........ would appreciate any amount of info. that you could pass my way.......I am currently using a different computer and i had tried to plug that other hard drive into this one that is working ......but it didnt recognize it here either......i can only hope that there is a way to salvage it ......but the more i try to figure it out the more hopless i become.........PLEASE help........ hi you said you was running windows XP when you put it in the other machine what OS is that computer running? because Windows XP by default trys to install on NTFS but if you try to access it from a HD that can't read NTFS (Windows 98) you will not be able to see that HD at all.

Press one of the following keys while trying to boot the problem PC? ESC, F1, F2, F10 oe Del to get into the BIOS.
If the HDD isn't showing up in the BIOS, and if you're sure it's hooked up correctly, then yes it's fried. If the drive does show up, maybe you can do a repair of the drive. If you have an XP CD, boot to the CD and try toe repair feature. -------------------- |
