I found what was causing this problem, I had a graphics card installed GE FORCE FX 5500 which had compatibility issues with vista rc1. At the moment I am just using my onboard graphics card till I can find a compatible driver for the graphics card...

If any one knows where I can download it from, that would be really helpful.

Thanks

According to nVidia, the FX 5500 GPU's are "Vista Capable" - but there have been driver issues with some nVidia cards (I had a BSOD with an nVidia 7800 GS card back in build 5456). Here's the link that says they're compatible: http://www.nvidia.com/page/technology_vista_home.html

The issue started initially with some video artifacts using the Vista drivers. So then I tried the nVidia beta drivers - which caused the problem. Uninstalling the beta drivers and reverting to the Vista drivers didn't fix the problem either.

Microsoft is working on these issues and has remedied my issue (at least) in builds after 5729. I'd expect that this will also fix your issues when it's released to the public.

Anywhooooo....here's a link to the nVidia Vista beta drivers if you'd like to try them:

RC1 - x86: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_96.33.html
RC1 - x64: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_96.33.html

CAVEAT: I haven't tried these drivers - use at your own risk!
