Windows Firewall Off

When I go into Control panel and check the Windows firewall option, it tells me"Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display the firewall setting." Why would that be; is it a problem and if so, how can I fix it?

Do you have another Firewall installed?
Have you updated, and run your antivirus?
Have you done any online virus scans?
Have you run any Spyware/Malware programs?
What Spyware/Malware programs do you use?

I have the Firewall that comes as part of the McAfee security suite (but I have the same thing on my notebook and it doesn't show as giving problems with the Windows firewall there). I have it on the automatic update and I haven't done a full scan in awhile. Perhaps I should. Nor have I run any online scans on that machine (like HouseCall, you mean?).
I have AdAware, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster and Trojan Hunter on that machine and I've run them all recently.

The McAfee Security Suite firewall probably disabled the Windows firewall, which it should have done, as you shouldn't have 2 firewalls running at the same time.

If you have the McAfee firewall on your notebook, you should disable the Windows firewall.

I usually run a couple of online scans every month, or two.
