Microsoft on Tuesday made it official: the retail prices for Windows Vista that Amazon.com leaked last week are, in fact, what the Redmond, Wash. developer will charge for its next operating system...Microsoft spelled out the upgrade and full version prices for four retail editions:

-- Windows Vista Home Basic: $99.95 (upgrade), $199 (full version)

-- Windows Vista Home Premium: $159/$239

-- Windows Vista Business: $199/$299

-- Windows Vista Ultimate: $259/$399 ...

im guessing you mean what it means by the upgrade part.
well im pretty sure that what it means is that if you want to just get an upgrade from a previous version of windows then it will be cheaper although im not entirely sure.so maybe someone else can help explain it better but thats the best i can explain it sorry.

My understanding of the Windows Vista pricing is that it will be "leased".
I hear that the same is true with the next version of Office
PCMag discussion http://discuss.pcmag.com/forums/1004329813/ShowPost.aspx

I have heard this rumor for over a year now.
Anyone else heard anything about it?
In the beginning there was the command line.

Thanks folks!

I'm not in any mad panic to install Vista, but ran the upgrade advisor and it is nice to know that I can if I want to.

Cheers
