After it was pointed out that dogs do see some color, I thought I'd check into it online. There are two parts of the retina for detecting light and color. Rods and cones. Cones are what allow us to see colors. Years ago, the theory was that dogs couldn't see colors because they had no cones in their retinas but have since discovered a few. They theorize that dogs might see some color but that can't be confirmed one way or another since a dog can't be asked what he can or can't see. Incidentally, a dog's eyes have lots of rods allowing them to see even better at night than in the daylight.
