Finger Print Scanner How Do I use it to log on?

I got a new laptop the other day and I have a finger print reader that I can use to log onto the laptop but I don't know how to set it up, I tried looking around to figure out how to use it. I ended up just setting up an account/password instead.

I have a toshiba notebook that came with Protector Suite QL which is a free or low cost download. Doesn't seem especially robust but it does help. Love to hear from others who've had experience with it or other scanning verification software.
