It's time for me to make the decision, do I renew my subscription to Norton AntiVirus, or not? Let me know your opinions please! Thanks! Also, does anyone recognize the following as viruses I can get rid of? They are actually on my mom's pc, and nothing we do it will get rid of them. They are: mydadsname@adopt.hotbar[2].txt, mydadsname@ads.enliven[1].txt, mydadsname@ads.specificpop[2].txt, mydadsname@adserver.trb[1].txt and so on. If any of these ring a bell, just let me know how you fixed it or what you would recommend. But the real question is, should I renew the Norton subscription?!? Thanks for your time. |

I believe those are cookies. In IE Click start/click control panel/double click internet options/select general tab/click on delete cookies. While there you can delete temporary files,also.
To avoid third party cookies in the future from installing themselves follow the directions below. How to block third party cookies in Internet Explorer: Click start/control panel/double click Internet Options/click privacy tab/click advanced/check override automatic cookie handling/uncheck always allow session cookies/select block third-party cookies/click OK Third-party cookies track your use of the Internet for advertising purposes. That is why they are considered adware/spyware. In Firefox click on tools/click options/choose cookie tab/check allow sites to set cookies/check for the originating site only/in keep cookies window choose ask me every time (this will allow you to decide whether to accept first party cookies or not on the site you are viewing. Firefox will remember what you chose when you next visit the same site.) Click OK As far as renewing your Norton subscribtion, I think you will get answers both pro and con. The users who hate it hate it, the users who like it like it. It can be difficult to remove. |

My NIS 05 was close to renewal and I did alot of research right here on this forum before I changed my Anti-Virus and Firewall.My protection method is in my sig. Have a look thru this is a great list of Freeware put together by Bleeping Computers Administrator,Grinler.
Consensus is,Norton is a resource hog,but if it's not causing you any problems and you don't mind shelling out the $ for it...
