I received a error message that said I would need to uninstall Nortons and reinstall in order for it to work properly. I run Windows XP and for about two months I have been having problems with the computer crashing and then a message from Windows which stated that my system had recovered from a serious error. To make a long story short, I uninstalled Nortons and then reinstalled it. I had also received the message from Microsoft that my system was probably infected with "Spyware.Apropos C." When I reinstalled Nortons now I keep getting a message from Norton Anti Virus Auto Protect which states that a virus with the name Spyware.Apropos C has infected my system and I need to scan. Then something prevents Norton's antivirus from starting the scan. Also, the Norton's Icon in my system tray has a red x on it and it says it is disabled. I have contacted Norton's and I do not wish to pay an arm and a leg for assistance as I thought the warranty, on the product which has another 77 days before it expires, would enable me to receive assistance should something sneak around Norton's. Does anyone have any idea as to how to take care of this problem? I went to Microsoft and ran a virus scan in safe mode from their web site but it still did not touch the Spyware.Apropos C which must be embedded somewhere. I also attempted a scan from Symantac itself but it would not work. I feel like I paid a lot of money for something that is not worth anything. Help. Sincerely, Babs |

At this point, I would suggest following the instructions tg1911 has written in the post I have quoted below. If you have any pre-HJT posting questions, add them to this topic.
Orange Blossom I suggest you post a HijackThis log for examination.
A member of the HijackThis Team will walk you through, step by step, how to disinfect your computer. Once you post your log, don't make any changes to your system, as that could change the results of the posted log, making it more difficult to properly clean your system. Read Preparation Guide for use before posting a HijackThis Log. Please read, and follow, all directions carefully!!! Then, run a log, and post it in the HijackThis forum, at this link. Do not, fix anything, yet. A member, of the HJT Team, will help you out. It may take a while to get a response, because the HJT Team are very busy. Please, be patient, as these people are volunteers. They will help you out, as soon as possible. NOTE: Once you have made the post, please, DO NOT make another post in the HJT forum, until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. The first thing they look for, when looking for logs to reply to, is 0 replies. If you make another post, there will be 1 reply. The team member, glancing over the replies, might assume someone is already helping you out, and will not respond. So, just make your post, and let it sit there, until a team member responds. This way you will be taken care of, in the most timely manner. -------------------- Orange Blossom An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure ESET NOD32, AVG Anti-spyware Free, SuperAntiSpyware Pro, SpywareBlaster, Spybot 1.5, WinPatrol Plus, Sunbelt Personal Firewall - Full, Comodo BOClean 4.27, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, NoScript Firefox ext., Norton noscript |
