Quote from a post from Albert Frankenstein :

This quote scares me a little:

Microsoft is trying to rectify that problem with Windows Vista -- the next version of its operating system by only allowing the installation of device drivers that have met the company's security testing procedures.

Don't creators of device drivers have to pay Microsoft in order to get tested and get signed by Microsoft? It sounds like the creation of another profit center for Micro$oft.

I agree Albert. Just a way to make things worse for all or us. M$ makes enough $ as it is no need for ne more. If I cant install a driver tht isnt signed by M$ then I am staying with XP and DOS on most of my systems.

My reply:

I don't really see the point of upgrading right now... As long as the programs still run on windows XP I will keep it. Untill I NEED Vista I don't think I will get it... Plus if vista only runs on 64bit processors that is going to be alot of people with Pentium 4s and such that won't be able to get Vista.

When you buy Vista you get both 32 and 64 bit versions.

Considering the amount of crappy drivers out there, Microsoft's idea for only allowing drivers that have passed its testing sounds like a good idea.

It is a good idea but will microsoft have a good enough system in place to test all of the drivers that would need approving... Think of all the sound cards, video cards, NIC, ect...
