If you wiped the drive that Windows was on, yes, you have to format and reinstall Windows and all your programs.

I assume you formatted the drive before installing Windows again?

What brand and model of computer do you have?

Many computers that were manufactured by major manufacturers like HP or Sony among many others have hidden Restore partitions on their hard drives.

It may be that OR if you reloaded XP without SP2 it will not recognize anything over 137 gigs on a disk. SP2 addresses that. You need it anyway for security reasons - so if you do not have go to Windows or Microsoft updates and download it immediately.

OR

You may have left a partition existing (Which would now usually be D:/)

Click on the "My Computer" icon and tell us what you see.
