While this most likely won't help reduce the volue of SPAM email signigicantly, I still liked the concept well enough to personally register.

Local Chicago businessman launches personal attack on SPAM
http://www.ethicalemail.com/news.htm

QUOTE
(Chicago, Ill., June 1, 2004) - If you have an email account, chances are you have been hit by SPAM. Local Chicago businessman Rocky Mosele is no different. However, when it started to affect his business, he decided to do something about it.  Leveraging the Anti-SPAM law, Mosele has enlisted top attorneys and software engineers to launch a completely free Internet site at www.ethicalemail.com in hopes of putting an end to the enormous amount unsolicited email users receive on a daily basis.

The process is simple. Email users can log onto ethicalemail.com and enter their email address. The addresses will then be compiled into a "do not contact" database. Mosele plans to deliver the database of names to the bulk email houses that are responsible for billions of emails being generated on the Internet. According to the law, the bulk email houses will have 10 days to remove those email names from their databases.

Mosele admits that the process will not be 100 percent effective at stopping SPAM, but by distributing the ethical email database to the largest bulk email houses, a large percentage can be eliminated. Also, as new bulk email companies surface, the ethical email database can be distributed to them to stop them from sending emails to the do not contact list.

"We are taking a different approach to the problem with ethical email, everyone is trying to block unsolicited email," as various existing software does, "we are trying to stop unsolicited email," added Mosele.

How to Register at Ethical EMAIL's Web Site

I have personally registered the top five email addresses I use to track this new facility further and I'm hopeful it will make a dent in the volume of spam that constantly plauges our email accounts.

Important update!!! Do not submit information to this site. NBC News has just reported that this website may be selling the email addresses you submit to their registry back to the spammers themselves.

I would advise not using this service until it is know whether or not this is the case.
