Now the computer seems to operate normally, but the screen is small (center 1/2 or so). System restore doesn't help. Dr Watson says to exit mmtask.tsk but i don't know how to do this.???

hey there,
sounds like you just need to right click on a blank spot on your desktop
and go down to properties. then click on the tab "settings" and look
for the "screen area" part of the window... it should have a slider
that you can select different resolutions with. it is probably set on
640x480 right now. most laptop displays work best at 1024x768...
just push the slider over to when it shows 1024x768 and click "apply".
it should give you a 15-second prompt to tell the computer if the
display is still legible. if it is, click yes. (or ok). if it messes up or
goes blank, just try a smaller resolution than 1024x768... something
like 800x600...
good luck,
