When entering a web address, or url, in Internet Explorer or Firefox you can simply type the name into the address field at the top of the browser and the browser will automatically attempt to connect to www and add a .com

For example if you type cnn in your address field and press enter, it will automatically get to www.cnn.com.

Try it with bleepingcomputer and you will see what I mean!

Dear "Grinler",

After playing with all of Jason & Friends, I've become "gun-shy" so to speak.

I spent 3 or 4 minutes searching your post for the "hidden" item.
Something I was missing in your post.

Boy! Was I surprised to find that really does work! But, didn't I (read We)
already know that? Or am I assuming something that I don't know already?

Paranoia rains..... Argh!

Whew,

Thanks for the reassurance.

I don't feel like I'm pounding my way through a dark hall at the moment.

Education seems to run just as deep, though. The antidote, kinda. Is this part of the Domain Name Server (DNS) service? (Is service what ya' call it?). Seems like a step in the process of converting a name to an IP Address. Which step, well... thats where the Compedia comes in, I guess. tongue.gif

Ah, Grinler,
I caught what you were saying immediately, and I've done that for a
couple of years now, I guess.

I'm not sure about what Phawgg was trying to say.

Sometimes - verbosity is .....

i donno if its because i'm using the stone-age IE but this won't work with IE5 because of Microsoft's "brilliant" (sarcastic) idea to help people use the search engines even with Auto-Search off if you would put in cnn i would come up http://cnn/ thus not directing to the site

Why are you still using IE 5? When IE 6 is available. It works with IE 6.

IE5 is what's on the computers here at work. I don't download IE6 because its not really needed, on these computers here at work. if however someone oneday request they have IE6, i'll download it and install it on their machine. some people live in the stone-age in the busness world. heck i have a user that still uses DOS and Win3.1!! (why i'll never know)

You really should download IE6. It has security updates that IE5 never had updated.

Curious as to why IE 6 is not really needed on 'puters @ your workplace?

OMG Do you all check for and install any updates? Doesn't IE 6 show as an update option? If I were you I'd have a serious talk with whomever is in charge. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that the system is being left wide open to attack. IMHO
